Commission an original watercolor painting for yourself or a loved one.
Whether you’re looking to commemorate a special occasion, or you want a piece that is custom made for your home, commissions are a great way to purchase an original work of art that is perfectly suited to you.
The following base prices include shipping and white archival matting. All mats are fitted to standard frame sizes to make framing easy and affordable. Prices vary based on subject matter and complexity.
5x7" matted to 8x10" - $200+
8x10" Matted to 11x14" - $360+
11x14" matted to 16x20" - $580+
Pieces with a custom size are a great option if you already have a frame you’d like to fit the piece to, or if you have a specific location in mind to display it. Prices range from $3.50 to $2.50 per square inch, depending on the size and complexity of the piece. Shipping and matting are not included.
Commissioned pieces are charged at a flat rate, and payment is typically handled with a non-refundable deposit of 50% up front, and 50% upon completion. The piece will be delivered after the final payment is received.
What kind of photograph makes for a good painting?
Your photograph should be high resolution so that it’s easy to make out the colors and details. Photos taken with a camera phone will work well as long as they are not pixelated or grainy.
Photos with bright colors and patterns often result in the most interesting and fun paintings. For portraits, it is recommended that the photo is taken in natural light, but artificial light works too, so long as the subject of the photograph is not washed out.
Do I need to provide photographic reference?
This depends on what you want. If you want a painting that is similar to Jeffrey's existing work, but you don't feel attached to the specifics, you may not need to provide references.
If you commission a portrait, or a painting of a specific place, you will be responsible for providing photographic references. Unless you know exactly what you want, it often helps to provide multiple photos so that Jeffrey can help you to select the best reference material.
How long will it take?
Commissions usually have about a one month turnaround. If you need your commissioned piece delivered within 5 to 7 business days, rush orders are available for an additional fee of $100. Rush orders can only be guaranteed if all payments are made in a timely fashion.
Will prints be made of my commissioned piece?
If the content of the piece is personal (e.g. portraits of family members), Jeffrey will not create reproductions of your commissioned painting. However, if the content of your work is not personal and fits in with her larger body of work, Jeffrey reserves the right to create and sell reproductions of the work.
Can I create prints of my commissioned piece?
Unless otherwise negotiated, you do not have the rights to reproduce your commissioned piece for profit or commercial use. If you would like to create prints for noncommercial use, that can be arranged directly through Jeffrey or with her approval.
